ATAQ TEAM RULES & EXPECTATIONS

ATHLETES

 

At Practice

As an athlete training with ATAQ your conduct during practice is very important. The following are team rules, best practices, and team expectations regarding practice:

​

  • Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety first and always

  • Prepare your swim and gear bag the night before (swim suit, goggles, water, cliff bars, Gatorade, etc.)

  • Be at practice at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time

  • Sign in at the front desk of the aquatic center

  • You are expected to assist and encourage your teammates at practice and during meets

  • You are expected to show respect to your teammates: no teasing or horse playing

  • Listen to the coaches during practice and follow their direction

  • While at practice do not perform an unfamiliar skill without direction and supervision of an ATAQ coach

  • Inform a coach before leaving the deck (bathroom break) and when leaving practice, if leaving early (Say Goodbye)

  • Listen to lifeguards, facility personnel and follow facility rules

  • Bullying, hazing, abusive language, lying, stealing, vandalism, and sexual misconduct are grounds for immediate dismissal from the team

  

 

At Swim Meets

As an athlete competing with ATAQ your conduct during swim meets is very important. The following are team rules, best practices, and team expectations regarding swim meets:

 

  • Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety first and always

  • Prepare your swim and gear bag the night before (swim suit, goggles, water, cliff bars, Gatorade, extra towels, a sitting mat, etc.)

  • Eat a high carb meal the evening before and a light breakfast if you are competing the AM session or a good breakfast and snack if you are competing in the PM session (See session assignment for more information)

  • Spend at least 15 minutes the evening before the meet visualizing your race strategies and performance to prepare mentally to have a good outcome

  • Arrive at the scheduled time noted for your session assignment and check in with the ATAQ coach assigned to your session

  • Make sure that you are wearing ATAQ spirit gear to signal you represent ATAQ

  • During warm ups follow the coach’s instructions

  • Always enter the water for warm up feet first in an area cleared of other swimmers

  • Follow the meet marshal’s instructions as well as other meet officials

  • After each race report to the coach for any advice from him or her

  • Inform a coach before leaving the deck (bathroom break) and alert the coach when leaving practice if leaving early (Say Goodbye)

  • Listen to lifeguards, facility personnel and follow facility rules

  • If allowed, when eating snacks on deck clean up after yourself and the surrounding area

  • Bullying, hazing, abusive language, lying, stealing, vandalism, and sexual misconduct are grounds for immediate dismissal from the team

 

In the Community

As a member athlete of Advanced Technical Aquatics you represent your family and the team in your community. Our expectations are that you will conduct yourself as examples of great conduct and citizenry by:

  • Assisting those who need assistance

  • Encouraging friends and acquaintances with a positive outlook

  • Respect law enforcement and government officials

  • Being an example at school and achieving good grades (ATAQ standard is a “B” average)

  • Whether at practice, swim meets or in the community bullying, hazing, abusive language, lying, stealing, vandalism, and sexual misconduct are grounds for immediate dismissal from the team

 

 

PARENTS

 

At Practice & Meets

As a parent member with ATAQ your conduct during practice and at meets set the tone and the example for the continued success of the ATAQ culture of excellence. The following are team rules, best practices, and team expectations for parents:

  • Please make sure your swimmer is on time and ready to participate

  • Please wait until after practice or meets to speak with coaching staff about any concerns you may have. If it is something of significance to report, that's not an emergency, please email your concerns to info@swimataq.com. In the subject line please put, "Significant concern. Please address the following immediately." 

  • During practice you are typically allowed to sit on the bleachers near the deck. At meets parents are not allowed on deck, you must be in designated area for spectators

  • Do not drop off your swimmer to practice or a meet and leave without first informing coaching staff. You are ultimately responsible for you swimmers well being

  • Please set aside time for your swimmer to view training links

  • Please schedule time for your swimmer to have personal practice 

  • Please remove your swimmer from practice if they are being disruptive

  • Please remit training and meet entry fees as instructed in a timely manner

  • Your conduct during practice and at meets must be exemplary
